August 4, 2009 - Construction Update
On July 28th, the newly constructed lanes of I-90 between the Lawrence County line and Exit 32 were opened to traffic. With the completion of Phase 2, detour signing for the Exit 30 onramp was removed and traffic was restored to the existing onramp location at the junction of Hwy 14A. Worked completed in Phase 2 consisted of the reconstruction of the eastbound lanes and structure improvements at the 4 bridges within this section of roadway. Work is schedule to resume after August 10th with work in Phase 3. Phase 3 work will remove existing median crossovers, construct median crossovers that will be used during the reconstruction of the westbound lanes in the spring of 2010, upgrade detour routes, and perform preliminary work to widen the westbound bridge of I-90 over Hwy 14A.

Both lanes of Interstate 90 are being reconstructed from MRM 28 to 32. The existing pavement will be removed and replaced with new concrete pavement. All eight of the bridges on the project will get new approach slabs. Four of the bridges will be getting epoxy chip seal overlays and the other four will be getting a concrete overlay. The westbound structure at Exit 30 will be widened. New guardrail will be installed at various locations throughout the project.
To reconstruct the eastbound lanes and do the bridge repairs, traffic will be routed to the westbound lanes in April of 2009, with one lane of traffic open in each direction. A three week closure of the eastbound on-ramp from Exit 30 will be necessary in the spring of 2009, but will be open by May 21, 2009.
The westbound lane reconstruction and bridge work will begin in the spring of 2010, with traffic in a one lane configuration in the eastbound lanes. A three week closure of the westbound off-ramp to Exit 30 will be necessary in the spring of 2010, with a reopen date of May 20, 2010.
Temporary ramp removals, minor grading and seeding will continue after the 2010 Sturgis Rally, using lane closures.
Both lanes in each direction will be open during the Sturgis Rally from July 23 - August 10, 2009, and from July 29 - August 16, 2010.
The overall completion date for the project is October 1, 2010.
