What is Being Built
Interstate 90 will be reconstructed between Mill Road and approximately 1 mile south of Exit 48. The existing Exit 51 will be relocated approximately 1 mile east of its present location. The new Exit 52 will be constructed as a standard diamond interchange. The S-Curves at Black Hawk will also be straightened to accommodate present design standards and will include a new structure over the DM&E Railroad tracks.

Sturgis Road, commonly called the Piedmont Service Road and SD79, is also being rebuilt between Black Hawk and Exit 46. The Exit 52 project will reconstruct a portion of this, between Black Hawk and Diamond T Road/Kimberly Drive. Information regarding the reconstruction of Sturgis Road/SD79/Piedmont Service Road/ between Diamond T Road/Kimberly Drive and Exit 46 can be found on the “Sturgis Road” construction site of the SDDOT webpage.

In this aerial photograph of the reconstruction area, north is to the left of the page and the purple lines represent the new alignments. Most significantly, the S-Curves on Interstate 90 are being straightened and existing Exit 51 is being moved to a new location and will be renamed Exit 52. Also, the re-alignment of SD79 can be seen going through the existing S-Curves of Interstate 90 - View Adobe PDF Map
