FLIGHT WATCH
Enroute Flight Advisory Service (EFAS)

EFAS is a source for current enroute weather information and is the best source of PIREP's. EFAS is not for activating or closing flight plans, making position reports, or receiving standard or outlook briefings. EFAS is a service specifically designed to provide enroute aircraft with timely and meaningful weather advisories pertinent to the type of flight intended, route of flight and altitude.

Pilot participation is essential to the success of EFAS by providing a continuous exchange of information on weather, winds, turbulence, flight visibility, icing, etc., between pilots and flight watch specialists. Pilots are encouraged to report good weather as well as bad, and to confirm expected conditions and report unexpected conditions to EFAS facilities.

When calling a FLIGHT WATCH (EFAS) station:

  1. Transmit and receive on 122.0 Mhz below FL 180.
  2. If at or above FL 180, use frequency shown on map below.
  3. Give your COMPLETE aircraft call sign.
  4. Give your LOCATION referenced to the nearest VOR or city.
  5. WAIT for a reply before making a request
EXAMPLE: "Minneapolis Flight Watch, Skyhawk N12345 15 miles east of Brookings, Over."

The specialist in the Flight Watch Control Station (FWCS) is monitoring multiple remote communication outlets and may be busy talking to another pilot in another state when you call.
