Chairman Marquardt called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m.

Roll call was taken.

Motion by Shoener, seconded by Spies, to approve the May 28, 2009, Commission Meeting Minutes. Motion carried (all ayes).

Motion by Shoener, seconded by Kranz, to award projects 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6 to the low bidder subject to approval of all required concurrences. Motion carried (all ayes).

Project 7 is going through the DBE process and DOT’s final recommendation regarding it will be at the June 25, 2009, meeting.

Secretary Bergquist reported the Texas DOT has been given word by their Legislature to cease all operations September 1, 2010.

Secretary Bergquist reminded the Commissioners about the South Dakota Transportation Hall of Honor banquet June 22, 2009, in Pierre to induct former employee K.C. Wilson. We would like to see our Transportation Commissioners attend if possible. Please contact Amy Campbell for tickets.

Secretary Bergquist advised the Commissioners that Representative Russell has requested to be placed on the June 25, 2009, meeting agenda regarding interstate median mowing.

Secretary Bergquist reported the Legislative Summer Study Committee would liketo speak with some of the Commissioners during the initial meetings on June 23rd and 24th Commissioners Tidball and Marquardt volunteered to attend.

Secretary Bergquist discussed Stimulus Transportation Enhancement applications. South Dakota was awarded $183 million in stimulus transportation funds with $5.5 million or 3% to be used on transportation enhancement projects such as bike paths. The DOT received 49 applications for these funds. The DOT recommends approval of 15 projects to be placed on the 2009-2013 STIP utilizing $3.2 million of economic stimulus transportation enhancement funds.

Motion by Marquardt, seconded by Trucano, for projects 2 through 14 be added to the 2009-2013 STIP. Motion carried (all ayes).

Motion by Spies, seconded by Trucano, for project 1 to be added to the 2009-2013 STIP. Motion carried (6 ayes, Fouberg abstained).

There being no further business, at the hour of 9:30 a.m. the conference call for the Transportation Commission adjourned.
