Highway 44 Surfacing West of Platte-Winner Bridge is Complete
Mitchell, SD – Asphalt surfacing work on the SD Hwy 44 landslide area, west of the Platte-Winner bridge, has been completed and is now open to traffic.
"The Department of Transportation thanks the public for their patience and understanding during this important project," said Greg Fuller, DOT Director of Operations.
The Department of Transportation has awarded the Hwy 44 slide repair project west of the Platte-Winner Bridge to Schweigert Construction, Inc. of Gregory, SD. The contractor has begun work off the roadway. The project area will be closed to through traffic on July 8, 2008 for a minimum of 10 days with a possible closure up to 20-40 days. This closure will be from just west of the Platte-Winner Bridge to Hwy 1806 South. Traffic should plan to use an alternate route during the closure period. Traffc will be maintained with flaggers once the reinforced earth fill is constructed with the rest of the project built under traffic. The overall completion date is October 17, 2008.
The total contract amount is $1.54 million.
