Traffic Signs

stop.gif (655 bytes)

Stop Sign
This sign is one of the most well known, as well as one of the most common. As you might expect, this sign tells a driver to stop and check for traffic before continuing.

4-way.gif (436 bytes)

4-Way Sign
Sometimes, this will appear below a regular stop sign. It means that vehicles coming from each direction must stop before moving on. The first car to stop at the sign has the right-of-way, which means they can go on.

all-way.gif (385 bytes)

All Way Sign
This sign works just like the 4-way sign. The only difference is this sign will appear when there is more (or less) than four streets coming together at one intersection.

yield.gif (511 bytes)

Yield Sign
Another common sign is the yield sign. Its purpose is to tell drivers to look out for other cars, but they don't have to stop if there is no one coming.

limit.gif (747 bytes) Speed Limit
These signs are seen almost everywhere in the state. It tells drivers the fastest they can safely drive on a road. There are many factors that affect the speed limit of a road. The only place in the state to go 75mph is the interstate.

minimum.gif (720 bytes)

Minimum Speed
This sign is the opposite of the speed limit sign. Sometimes it is also unsafe to go too slow, so this sign tells drivers to maintain at least a certain speed.

night.gif (665 bytes)

Night Limit
On some roads in the state, it is safe to travel a faster speed during the daylight than in the dark. In this case, the black sign will warn drivers of the dangers of driving too fast in the dark.

trucks.gif (722 bytes)

Truck Limit
Sometimes, especially in hilly areas, large trucks must travel slower than the rest of the traffic. This is because it takes them longer before they can stop. This sign tells them how fast they are able to go.
ahead.gif (706 bytes)

Speed Zone Ahead
On the highway, it takes a long time to slow down. This sign tells drivers that there will be a need to change their speed coming up. It helps because they can gradually slow down instead of slamming on the brakes.

no_left.gif (779 bytes)

No Left Turn
In some places it is unsafe to turn left at an intersection. This sign makes it clear that you cannot turn left at this point in time.

no_right.gif (805 bytes)

No Right Turn
Just like the No Left Turn sign, this sign tells drivers when it is unsafe to make a right turn.

no_bikes.gif (718 bytes)

No Bicycles
This sign tells anyone riding their bicycle that it is unsafe to take the road any further. There is always a reason for these signs and bike riders must pay attention and avoid the road.

no_enter.gif (578 bytes)

Do Not Enter
Look out when you see this sign! It indicates that the vehicle may be heading the wrong way on a one-way street. This is especially dangerous because accidents are likely when going right into oncoming traffic.

wrong_way.gif (455 bytes)

Wrong Way
Just like the Do Not Enter sign, this is an important one to look out for. It tells the driver that they have already begun to go the wrong way and they must turn around immediately.

one_way.gif (426 bytes)

One Way
This is an early warning to drivers that the traffic on a road is only allowed in one direction. The arrow will point with the flow of the traffic. If the driver carelessly misses one of these signs, they are sure to see the Wrong Way sign above.

slow.gif (692 bytes)

Keep Right
On long, steep hills, sometimes an extra lane will be added to the road for cars and trucks that go very slow up the hill. This sign tells those slow vehicles to keep right, and out of the way of the others.

left_lane.gif (662 bytes)

Left Lane Must Turn
Sometimes, a lane gets divided off of the main road. In this case, vehicles travelling in that lane must go that way. This sign warns the driver to change lanes if they want to continue going straight.

right_lane.gif (700 bytes)

Right Lane Must Turn
This is exactly the same as the Left Lane Must Turn sign except it tells vehicles in the right lane that they are going to go right unless they change lanes.

no_park.gif (583 bytes)

No Parking
There are places in town where vehicles are not allowed to park. It may be because of a fire hydrant or an unloading zone. This sign lets drivers know not to park in these areas.

no_park2.gif (683 bytes)

No Parking
This sign looks a little different, but it means the same thing as the No Parking sign above.

2hr_park.gif (946 bytes)
