Guardrail Work to Begin on SD 473 Near Lead

LEAD, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation will begin guardrail work on South Dakota Highway 473 near Terry Peak in Lead on Monday, July 16.

Work will begin on Highway 473 near mile marker 93 for about three-quarters of a mile.

The work involves replacing the existing guardrail, erosion repair, and pipe crossings.

Traffic will be reduced to a single lane with a 10-foot-width restriction.

Flaggers and pilot cars will be used during construction activities.  Motorists should expect 10- to 15-minute delays during daytime operations.

Asphalt removal and renewal on that stretch of Highway 473 will begin after the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Work on the $1.8 million project is expected to be done by Sept. 15.

The contractor is Hills Materials Company of Rapid City.
