10th Street and I-229 Overpass Work in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Buskerud Construction, Inc., a contractor for the South Dakota Department of Transportation, started concrete repairs and epoxy chip seal work on the 10th Street interchange over I-229 in Sioux Falls on Friday, Sept. 28.

The following closures will affect traffic.

  • The 10th Street westbound lanes closed to traffic beginning Friday, Sept. 28, at 6:30 p.m. and reopened at 11 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29. Traffic will be maintained in the eastbound lanes.

  • The 10th Street eastbound lanes closed to traffic on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 11 p.m. and reopened at 6 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 1. Traffic will be maintained in the westbound lanes.

  • The left-turn lanes on eastbound and westbound 10th Street, as well as the I-229 left turn off-ramps at 10th Street, will be closed from Friday, Sept. 29 at 6:30 p.m. to Monday, Oct. 1,  at 6 a.m.

  • On Monday, Oct. 1, at 6 a.m. until Friday Oct. 5, single lane closures occured on eastbound and westbound 10th Street.  The 10th Street on- and off-ramps will also have half-lane closures to help facilitate the concrete repair work.

Motorists are encouraged to utilize the U-turns at the Lowell and Cleveland Avenue intersections in lieu of using the left-turn lanes.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane through the construction zones at times when the work is being done. Motorists should expect delays though the construction areas and stay alert for workers, equipment, lane closures, lane shifts and suddenly slowing traffic.

The substantial completion date for the $2.5 million project is October 26.
