Construction To Begin On Highway 12 Between I-29 and Summit

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Beginning Monday, May 20, crews started the second phase of a concrete paving project on Highway 12 between Interstate 29 and Summit.

Once traffic control is ready, work will begin to replace the existing concrete surface on Highway 12 from the I-29 exit to the Summit entrance. The construction will take about five weeks.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane and controlled 24 hours a day with flagging and pilot car operations. No vehicles over 70-feet in length or 16-feet in width will be allowed through.

This work is being accomplished in conjunction with the first phase of the project started in April.

The project has an interim completion date of Oct. 18 for all work on the actual roadway and an overall completion date of Nov. 1.

The prime contractor for the $9.6 million project is Knife River Midwest, LLC of Sioux City, Iowa.
