Rumble Strip Projects In Mitchell And Sioux Falls Areas

 

MITCHELL, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation announces rumble strips and rumble stripes will be ground into the shoulders of several highways in the Mitchell and Sioux Falls areas of the state beginning on Monday, June 24.

 

The contractor will move from one project to the next in the following order:

 

  1. Highway 13, 6 miles, from the 223rd Street junction north to just beyond Highway 324. Approximate time to complete the rumble strips is half a day.

  2. Highway 42, 4 miles, from Highway 11 east to the Iowa State line. Approximate time to complete the rumble strips is half a day.

  3. Highway 17, 3 miles, from south of Highway 42 north to the Highway 42 junction. Approximate time to complete the rumble strips is half a day.

  4. Highway 19, 7 miles, from the Highway 18 junction north to Hurley. Approximate time to complete the rumble strips is half a day.

  5. Highway 19, 10 miles, from Parker north to the Highway 42 junction. Approximate time to complete the rumble strips is one day.

  6. Highway 42, 14 miles, from the Highway 81 junction east to the Highway 19 junction. Approximate time to complete the rumble strips is one and a half days.

  7. Highway 81, 8 miles, from Salem north to the Miner County line. Approximate time to complete the rumble strips is one day.

  8. Highway 38, 9 miles, from the 421st Avenue junction east to the McCook County line. Approximate time to complete the rumble stripes is one day.

  9. Highway 34, 14 miles, from east of Wessington Springs to east of Woonsocket. Approximate time to complete the rumble strips is one and a half days.

  10. Highway 34, 17 miles, from Highway 50 junction east to the Highway 34 junction. Approximate time to complete the rumble strips and rumble stripes is two days.

  11. Highway 45, 15 miles, from the Highway 34 junction south 15 miles. Approximate time to complete the rumble strips and rumble stripes is two days.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane and controlled with flaggers and signing. This is a mobile work operation that proceeds at approximately five mph.

 

A delay of up to five minutes can be expected while traveling through the work area during daytime hours and motorists will need to pass through with caution.

 

The flush seal of the rumble strips and rumble stripes will be done at a later date and permanent pavement marking applied within 14 days of completion of the flush seal.

 

The prime contractor on this $196,500 project is Surface Preparation Technologies, LLC from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
