Traffic Signal Change At 4th Street And Walnut Street In Yankton

YANKTON, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation and the City of Yankton will conduct a study on the necessity of continuing to have a traffic signal at the intersection of Highway 50 (4th Street) and Walnut Street.

On Thursday, Aug. 29, the signal will be placed into a red-and-yellow flash mode for one week.

Highway 50 traffic will move freely through the flashing yellow caution light while traffic on Walnut Street will be required to stop at the flashing red light.

According to data gathered by the department last year, traffic volumes at the intersection in Yankton have declined to the point where the traffic signal no longer meets specified criteria.

On Thursday, Sept. 5, the traffic signal indications will be covered and the intersection will be controlled with stop signs on Walnut Street. Highway 50 traffic will not have to stop and will have the right of way.
