Advance Warning Beacon on Eastbound Highway 16B

RAPID CITY, S.D. – On Wednesday, April 2, crews will begin work on an advance warning beacon project on Highway 16B near Black Hills Boulevard in Rapid City.

Work on the project involves relocating signs and installing an advance warning beacon on the shoulder of the eastbound lanes of Highway 16B near the Black Hills Boulevard intersection to warn traffic the signal ahead is changing.

Initial work will require a shoulder closure for placement of electrical equipment. Lane closures will follow for installation of detector loops in each lane. When completed, the advance warning beacon will flash alerting drivers they will need to stop at the traffic signal.

Work is scheduled to be completed in late May.

The prime contractor on this $26,000 project is Solar Sound Corporation of Rapid City.
