Transportation Commission Rejects Bids On Highway 16

 

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Transportation Commission, at its monthly meeting on March 27, rejected all bids received on the Highway 16, Mt. Rushmore Road, reconstruction project. The project was part of the March 19, 2014 bid letting.

 

The plans for the project on U.S. Highway 16, also known as Mt. Rushmore Road in Rapid City, are to reconstruct the section from the end of the divided segment on the south side of Rapid City to Floormann Street. The city of Rapid City is also planning to provide upgrades to city utilities and landscape work.

 

Department of Transportation engineers estimated the cost of the project to be $6.529 million. The lowest bid received was $9,476,394.05.This was 45.1 percent above the engineer’s estimate.

 

Based on the bid prices, the Transportation Commission voted to reject all bids.  Department staff will perform an additional review of the project and identify options for the project in the future.
