I-29 Open Between Brookings and the North Dakota Border

PIERRE, S.D.  – Officials with the departments of Transportation and Public Safety announce that Interstate 29 is now open between Brookings and the North Dakota border.

I-29 was closed at 11 p.m. last night (Monday) due to zero visibility and slippery roads making safe driving impossible.

I-29 in North Dakota remains closed at this time, but crews are working to open the roadway as soon as possible.

Officials remind motorists that winter driving conditions still exist on I-29 and on many highways across the sate. Motorists can expect snow packed and slippery areas, possible blowing and drifting snow, especially at bridge ends and in sheltered areas.

Travelers are reminded that SDDOT crews are out plowing and to give them plenty of room to work. Plows travel at speeds of 35 miles or less and can create a dangerous snow cloud limiting visibility around the plow.

Travelers are encouraged to visit www.safetravelusa.com/sd or dial 511 to get up-to-date information on road conditions and advisories.
