Paving on Highway 44 West of Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Earlier this week, lightning struck the Hills Materials asphalt plant causing minor delays in completing the paving on Highway 44 west of Rapid City. Crews will resume paving the final section of asphalt on Monday, July 28.

The paving is scheduled to be completed by Tuesday, July 29, with pavement markings to follow.

One lane of traffic with flaggers and a pilot car will be used during construction. Motorists can expect minor delays and should be aware of suddenly slowing and merging traffic.

No work will be done on the project during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Aug. 4-10.

All work on the project is scheduled to be completed in early October.

The prime contractor on this $5.2 million project is Hills Materials Company of Rapid City.
