SPEARFISH, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says that starting the evening of Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, Interstate 90 in both directions will be closed for six nights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. between the off and on ramps of Exit 14.
This is being done so that the contractor can demolish the old Exit 14 bridge over I-90.
Interstate traffic will be routed up the off ramp and back down the on ramp. Each night the contractor will clean off the interstate, secure the structure and re-open the interstate before 6 a.m.
There will continue to be an all-way stop at the intersection of the ramps and 27th Street, a light plant will be set up at both intersections to improve visibility and flaggers will be on standby to clear congested traffic if needed.
Motorists are asked to slow down through the work zone and be prepared for suddenly slowing, merging and stopped traffic, as well as construction workers and equipment adjacent to the roadway.
Heavy Constructors, Inc., of Rapid City is the prime contractor on this $28 million project. The overall completion date for the project is June 1, 2018.
