RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says crews began crack and chip sealing operation on Highway 240 in Wall from mile marker 126 to 128 today (June 19).

Work on the project involves first doing crack sealing that will take about two days to complete.

The chip seal will be applied sometime after the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally at the beginning of August.

Motorists will be guided through the project with flaggers and a pilot car during daytime operations. The roadway will be open to normal traffic operations overnight. Motorists can expect delays and may want to find an alternate route.

This work is part of a contract to crack and chip seal other roads in the rea. The completion date for the entire contract is October.

The prime contractor on this $1 million project is Simon Contractors of South Dakota from Rapid City.
