ALCESTOR-BERESFORD, S.D. – South Dakota Department of Transportation officials say Highway 46, located north of Alcester at the intersection of Highway 11, will be closed to through traffic starting Monday, July 10.

The contractor will be reconstructing the roadway at this location. The work involves removal of the existing surfacing, lowering the hills, raising the intersection, erosion control work and roadway surfacing.

A detour route for Highway 46 traffic will be provided during the construction. Highway 11 traffic will be maintained through the work area in one lane with no access to Highway 46. The closure and detour period is expected to take six weeks.

Loiseau Construction, Inc. of Flandreau is the prime contractor on the $1 million project.

All work is expected to be completed by Nov. 3, 2017.
