BROOKINGS, S.D. – The intersection of 6th Street and 22nd Avenue in Brookings is tentatively scheduled to re-open on Sunday, July 23, barring any weather or other delays.

Contractors completed this phase of the project well ahead of the 75 calendar day provision and the Aug. 11, 2017, deadline set forth in the contract.

Upon the opening of the intersection, two-way traffic will be routed onto the new westbound lanes up to the bridge and then transitioned back onto the eastbound lanes until the north half of the new bridge is completed. The north half of the bridge and approach pavement should be done in approximately two weeks.

Phase 2 work includes reconstruction of the eastbound lanes and is planned to commence the first week of August.

Please allow extra time for travel through the construction area.

The public is invited to attend weekly meetings to discuss progress and sequencing.

Meetings will be held every Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Department of Transportation building located at 2131 34th Ave. in Brookings.

Interim completion for the project is Nov. 3, 2017, which includes Phase 0-2. The overall field completion date is June 30, 2018, which includes Phase 3.

The prime contractor on this $16.37 million project is BX Civil & Construction of Dell Rapids.
