WHITEWOOD, S.D. – Crews have begun work saw cutting the asphalt surfacing at the railroad crossing on Laurel Street in Whitewood. Traffic is being controlled by flaggers through the crossing with traffic being reduced to one lane.

Once crews remove the asphalt next to the tracks, RCP&E Railroad crews will begin their work removing the existing wood crossing and installing the new concrete crossing panels. The railroad crossing is scheduled to be closed to all traffic starting Tuesday, Oct. 17, at 7 a.m. and is expected to reopen that afternoon.

The prime contractor on this $150,000 project is Ainsworth Benning Construction, Inc. of Spearfish.
