RAPID CITY, S.D. – Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, March 5, 2018, on West Chicago Street in Rapid City. Crews will be constructing median crossovers to be utilized in future phases of the project and installing a temporary span wire traffic signal at the intersection of West Chicago Street and Sturgis Road.

In April, reconstruction of the eastbound lanes will begin and traffic will be moved into the westbound lanes on West Chicago Street. An 11-foot width restriction on West Chicago Street and a 10-foot width restriction on Sturgis Road will be in effect. The speed limit on West Chicago Street will be reduced to 40 mph through the construction zone.

It is anticipated that work will begin on the westbound lanes in July.

A city utility project will be constructed in conjunction with this project to install new water main and sanitary sewer.

Access will be maintained and business signing will be provided.

All work is scheduled to be complete on June 28, 2019.

Travelers should expect delays at the intersection of West Chicago Street and Sturgis Road and should consider an alternate route.

Complete Concrete, Inc. of Rapid City is the prime contractor of this $9.5 million project.

More information, including a website and detour maps, will be provided in the next few weeks to help residents plan routes around the construction zone.
