YANKTON, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says work to reconstruct the railroad crossing on Highway 50 just west of 439th Avenue (West City Limits Road) west of Yankton will begin Monday, Oct. 15.

The work being completed includes removal and replacement of the existing rail and ties and placement of new asphalt approaches to the new crossing.

Highway 50 will be closed to thru traffic from 438th Avenue to 439th Avenue (West City Limits Road) while the project is being completed.

Local traffic will be allowed in the closed area and Highway 50 traffic will have two detour options: Highway 52 seven miles west of Yankton or Highway 314 three miles west of Yankton.

The roadway is expected to be opened back up on Oct. 18.
