SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Officials with the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) say traffic has been reduced to one lane on the I-29 Exit 59 overhead bridge.

Earlier this week, DOT crews discovered the I-29 Exit 59 overhead bridge at the Davis/Hurley Exit was damaged by an over height impact and sustained considerable damage over the southbound lanes.

The Region Bridge crew assessed damage and for the safety of motorists and to prevent further damage to the structure, traffic on the bridge has been reduced to one 12-foot lane down the center of the bridge with stop signs placed on both ends.

Design work to repair the damage is underway and officials say repairs are expected to begin early this winter and continue into the spring.

The bridge will be open to legal loads, but no over-weight loads will be permitted until the repairs are complete.
