DOT Holding Informational Meeting on Chamberlain Bridge Project
Mitchell, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation will hold an informational meeting on the Chamberlain bridge truss rehabilitation project on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Chamberlain City Office located at 715 N. Main. DOT officials will update the public on the construction activities taking place.

What is being built?
This project will rehabilitate the Chamberlain / Oacoma Truss Structure that spans the Missouri River on the I-90 Business Loop at the end of King Street in Chamberlain.
Work will consist of removal of the existing bridge deck, removal of existing paint from the truss members, repairing or replacing rusted steel, repainting the truss, repair of concrete piers, and replacement of the bridge deck.
Schedule
Continue set up of work platform and paint containment system August 1, 2009 through August 28, 2009
Removal of bridge deck anticipated to begin the week of August 10, 2009
Contractor’s completion of project – December 1, 2010
Traffic Affects
Bridge closed to all traffic until December 1, 2010. Detour will take travelers across the Missouri River on I90.
Boat Traffic will be allowed to cross below structure. Buoys will be used to warn boat traffic of construction.

- Removal of old paint and repainting of span #5 (west end of bridge)
- Removal of old girders in span #10 (east end of bridge)
- Demolish pier #11 to top of footing (east end of bridge)
- Remove and replace top 2 feet of concrete at piers #9 and #10 (east end of bridge)
