On-the-Job Training (OJT)

The On-the-Job Training Program is used to direct training opportunities to minority, female and economically disadvantaged individuals. The purpose of the training is to develop marketable skills for the individuals and allow them to gain journey worker status in highway construction crafts.

Each year certain projects are designated to have Trainee slots. The OJT Special Provision is added to the contract for those designated projects.

The new approved OJT program is effective March 14, 2016. Any current trainees in the prior OJT Program will be transferred to the new program. Projects let under the prior special provision will be updated by construction change order to include the new provision so that any new trainees will be able to benefit from the new OJT Program.

To assist in the transition to the new OJT Program, a list of Frequently Asked Questions and a presentation on the OJT Program update has been developed. Additional questions should be directed to June Hansen at 605-773-3540 or june.hansen@state.sd.us
