1. Highway: Powder House Road

Location: Powder House Road from the intersection of Highway 11 and Highway 42 to Madison Street

Description of Work:Grading, PCC Pavement, Asphalt Concrete Pavement, Curb and Gutter, Lighting & Storm Sewer

Traffic Solutions has installed traffic control devices.

Eastern Dakota Specialties is installing silt fence throughout the project.

Loiseau Construction will be grading throughout the project.

Muth Electric is placing conduit for the street lighting

Traffic Affects: The project will be closed to through traffic. Access will be maintained for local residents, mail services, school busses, and emergency vehicles.

The project has an overall completion date of November 5, 2010.

2. Highway: SD 42 & SD 11

Location: SD42 east of Sioux Falls at the junction with SD11 north and SD11 from SD42 north through Brandon and Corson

Description of Work:Pavement Restoration and Permanent Pavement Marking

Dakota Contracting has completed joint repair work on SD42 and SD11.

American Pavement Solutions continues to perform the joint sealing process. They are currently working south of Brandon on SD42 at the junction with SD11. They are using flaggers in the 2 lane sections.

Dakota Traffic Services continues to work on removing the existing pavement markings and placing the permanent pavement markings following the joint sealing work.

Traffic Affects: Traffic will be reduced to one lane through the work area. The 2 lane portions of SD42 and SD11 will be using a system of stop signs or flaggers on either side of the work area. Travelers are urged to use caution and slow down when workers are present and should expect some delay. The scheduled project completion date was June 4, 2010, but work is anticipated to continue until approximately the 15th of June.

3. Highway: SD 34

Location: Hwy 34 from 1 mile west of SD Hwy 13 to the South Dakota/ Minnesota state line.

Description of Work: Grading, Structures, and Interim Surfacing

Bowes Construction is placing base course salvage on the 7th and 8th miles of the project (PhaseII). They are placing base course on the 1st through the 3rd miles of the project. They are grading the 5th and 6th miles of the project.

Traffic Affects: SD Hwy 34 is closed to traffic from 1 mile west of SD Hwy 13 to the intersection of Moody County Hwy 17. SD Hwy 34 traffic is detoured from Interstate 29 to Moody County Hwy 14 / Pipestone County Hwy 2 to Minnesota State Hwy 23. Access will be maintained to local residents throughout the duration of the project. The project has an overall completion date of May 27, 2011.

4. I-90 East of Sioux Falls I-29 North of Sioux Falls

Location: I-90 East of Sioux Falls I-29 North of Sioux Falls.

Description of Work: Terminal anchor replacement and pavement repair

Iowa Plains Signing will set up lane closures at locations from the Minnesota border to Sioux Falls on I-90 and from the Madison exit to Sioux Falls on I-29 for the terminal anchor replacement work.

Iowa Erosion Control has set up concrete barrier in the East bound and lanes of I-90 and the North bound lanes of I-29 in order to complete the terminal anchor replacements. These barrier will remain in place until completion of the work required in that section.

Traffic Affects: Traffic will be reduced to one lane in the work zones. Speed reductions will be in effect throughout all work areas. Traffic should be aware of the speed reductions, the workers present in the work zones and haul vehicles entering and leaving the work zones.

With the concrete barrier in place, no vehicles over 12 foot wide will be able to pass through the project. Overwidth vehicles should obey the overwidth detour signing and travel around the project.

5. SD 17

Location: Hwy 17 from approximately 2000 feet south of 57th Street to Highway 42 and intersection improvements at 41st Street approximately 500 feet west and east of Highway 17.

Description of Work: Grading, RC Box Culverts, and asphalt surfacing

Loiseau Construction will be shaping ditches throughout the project.

Eastern Dakota Specialties will be placing permanent seeding.

Traffic Affects: The contractor will be working off of the shoulders and travelers are advised to use caution.

The project has an overall completion date of June 18, 2010.

6. I-90/Marion Road Interchange

Location: Marion Road from SD38 to 260th St.

Description of Work: Grading, PCC Pavement, Curb & Gutter, Structure and Roadway Lighting

The contractor has completed installation of the water main and continues constructing storm sewer and drop inlets on South Marion Road. The bridge crew has completed setting the new bridge girders over the EB lanes of I-90. They anticipate setting the girders over the WB I-90 during the week of August 16th. Crews are also placing asphalt on the west I-90 median crossover.

Traffic Affects: Marion Road will be closed to through traffic from SD38 to 260th St.

Traffic will be switched to head-to-head conditions in the eastbound lanes of I-90 through the vicinity of the new bridge. These traffic switches are anticipated to occur during the evening hours of Tuesday and Wednesday evening (August 17th and 18th) as crews set the bridge girders for the north span.

The interim completion date for the project is November 3, with an overall completion date of July 1, 2011. The contractor anticipates completing the project on time.

7. Southbound I-29 from the Colman Exit (Exit 109) to the Ward Exit (Exit 121)

Location: The southbound lanes of I-29 from approximately the Colman Exit (Exit 109) to just south of the Brookings/Moody County line

Description of Work: Non-reinforced PCC Pavement, Bridge Approach Modification, Guardrail and Culvert Safety Improvement.

During the week of August 16th, the contractor will continue removing the existing pavement and reinforcing steel which will be nearly complete. Grading operations continue to move south. The bridge contractor has completed the majority of the work at the Exit 121 overpass and will continue reconstruction of the approach and sleeper slabs on the south structures.

Traffic Affects: The southbound lanes of I-29 are closed to traffic and southbound traffic is head-to-head in the northbound lanes. The speed limit in the northbound lanes has been reduced from 75 mph to 65mph for the entire 13.4 miles of the project.

8. Old Yankton Trail Pedestrian Bridge Rehabilitation

Location: Old Yankton Trail Park

Description of Work: Pedestrian Bridge Rehabilitation

During the week of August 16th, the contractor will perform minor clean-up items on the project. The bridge over the Big Sioux River will be re-opened to pedestrian traffic as well as the trail on the north side. The Contractor will be applying a rust penetrating sealer to areas on the upper connections of the structure within the next 2 weeks. This work will require the bridge to be closed for one day.

The overall completion date for the project is August 13th, 2010.

Traffic Affects: The bike path running under the north side of the structure in Old Yankton Trail Park is currently open to pedestrian and bike traffic. Once crews receive the structural steel for the approach spans, the trail under the structure will be closed until the overhead work is complete. Those using the trail system are encouraged to find alternate routes.

9. I-90 from the Salem Rest Area to Buffalo Ridge

Location: I-90 from MRM 362 near the Salem Rest Area to MRM 390 near Buffalo Ridge west of Sioux Falls

Description of Work: PCC Pavement Repair, Cold Milling Asphalt Concrete, Asphalt Concrete Resurfacing, Bridge End Block Modification, RC Box Culvert Extension, RC Box Culvert Joint Repair, Riprap, Culvert Extension, and Guardrail

MAK Milling has completed milling for tapers at bridge ends and for clearance under structures on mainline I-90 and has begun work on the exit ramps.

Knife River Midwest has nearly completed the asphalt overlay work in the west bound lanes and will start on the east bound lanes the week of August 30. They intend to have the driving lanes of I-90 complete by September 15. Work on the ramps and crossroads should be complete by October 15.

Traffic Affects: Traffic will be reduced to one lane through the work area. Speeds will be reduced 65 MPH through the work zone. There will be flaggers at times at the work locations, at those times the speed will be reduced to 45 MPH. Travelers are urged to use caution and slow down when workers are present and should expect some slight delay.

10. SD Hwy 11

Location: SD 11 from the Harrisburg corner to 69th Street in Sioux Falls

Description of Work: Cold Milling Asphalt Concrete, Asphalt Concrete Resurfacing, Flattening Slopes on Approaches, Precast Box Culvert, and Culvert Work

Dakota Traffic Services intends reset the mailboxes August 27. The Contractor will need to dress up the approaches once the area dries a little and then they will seed the disturbed areas.

Traffic Affects: Traffic should be cautious and alert through the work area. There may be flaggers and a pilot car at times in the work zone. Travelers are urged to use caution and slow down when workers are present and should expect some slight delay.

11. I-90 West of Sioux Falls

Location: I-90 West of Sioux Falls

Description of Work: Bridge Deck Epoxy Chip seal Overlay

Construction Signing Corporation has set up lane closures at the East bound and West bound bridges on I-90 over the James River. These closures will remain in place until the work at these locations is complete.

J.V. Bailey will be completing the epoxy chip seal work at the indicated locations.

Traffic Affects: Traffic will be reduced to one lane in the work zones. Speed reductions will be in effect throughout all work areas. Traffic should be aware of the speed reductions, the workers present in the work zones and haul vehicles entering and leaving the work zones.

12. SD 19

Location: SD19 from SD-42 to I-90 at Humboldt

Description of Work: Cold Milling Asphalt Concrete, Asphalt Concrete Resurfacing, Flattening Slopes on Approaches, Culvert Extensions, and Guardrail

PAK Construction is performing the slope flattening work on the project. He has been placing borrow dirt.

The Contractor is tentatively scheduled to begin milling the existing surface the week of September 6, 2010 and the asphalt paving should follow right behind that. Traffic will be allowed through the project; they will be using flaggers and a pilot car for the milling and paving work.

Traffic Affects: Traffic should be cautious and alert through the work area. There may be flaggers at times at the work locations. Travelers are urged to use caution and slow down when workers are present and should expect some slight delay.

Location: Structures over Skunk Creek MRM 391.0 and Structures over Hwy 38 MRM 390.0

Description of Work: J.V. Bailey: concrete repair and grinding of structure surfaces in preparation of the epoxy chip seal application.

Construction Signing Company: Installation of signing for traffic control and lane closures at structure work locations.

Traffic Affects: Traffic will be reduced to one lane in the work zones. Speed reductions will be in effect throughout all work areas. Traffic should be aware of the speed reductions, the workers present in the work zones and haul vehicles entering and leaving the work zones. The lane closures will remain in place until completion of the work.

Dakota Contracting will be performing pavement repairs.

Traffic Affects: Lane closures will be utilized to complete the repairs while maintaining through traffic. All work activities will be performed between 6:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. only.
