blank space
Reason for Study:

The economy of Beadle County and the greater Huron area continue to diversify with growth in both the manufacturing and agricultural sector. Recreational and seasonal tourism are also major contributors the local economy of Beadle County. The population of Beadle County has grown by nearly 5% since the 2010 census. The transportation system is a critical factor in the both economic and population growth. To address existing and projected needs in Beadle County and the greater Huron area, the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) in conjunction with Beadle County is developing a County Master Transportation Plan (MTP). The MTP will address a full range of transportation options and issues and translate community needs and desires into a long-range, multi-modal plan that will provide a blueprint to address the future transportation needs of Beadle County. The Beadle County MTP will develop a long range (20 year) plan for addressing current and projected needs for county highway and bridge infrastructure within Beadle County.

Study Limits:

The study will examine all the areas of Beadle County outside of the Huron city limits, with focus on the County Highway System.

Public Involvement

The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) has a long history of public involvement in the development of transportation plans and projects. The 2005 passage of the Safe, Accountable, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) requires a public involvement process. In accordance with the Department's public involvement plan document, the Beadle County Master Transportation Plan Study strives to keep the public involved with the study as much as possible.

Public Meetings

Public meetings for the study will occasionally be scheduled to collect public input, provide information and answer questions. These public meetings will be held in Huron.

Public Meeting #1 - October 27, 2015 - Huron Campus Center, 5-7 p.m. - Blackburn Room

Public Meeting #2 - September 8, 2016 - Huron Campus Center - Kerr Community Room, 5:30 - 7 p.m.

Stakeholder Group Meetings

Municipalities and certain business types often have aspects that can have unique impacts to a county's transportation system that can be more thoroughly discussed outside of the public meeting format. As such, stakeholder groups consisting of representatives from the municipalities, large employers, and active trade and transportation oriented organizations within Beadle County will be invited to a set of stakeholder meetings that will be held throughout the study period.
