Location: Jackson Boulevard (State Highway 44) from Rapid Creek to Mountain View Road in Rapid City

What is being built?

Jackson Blvd. and a portion of Sheridan Lake Road are being reconstructed to widen these sections of roadway and to complete utility upgrades to the water, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer.

Jackson Blvd. will be reconstructed from the Rapid Creek bridge near the Meadowbrook Golf Course to a location approximately 350 feet east of the North Mt. View Road intersection. The utility portion of this project will also include some work outside the limits of the Jackson Blvd. roadway for water quality improvements near the City of Rapid City water treatment plant and the Jackson Pond area, on June Court, at the perimeter of the Creekside Professional Business complex, and on a portion of Lance Street between Lodge Street and South Mt. View Road.

April 2 - Status Update

The South Dakota Department of Transportation, The City of Rapid City, and Heavy Constructors have been working on Jackson Boulevard in a joint effort to reconstruct this major arterial route in Rapid City.

On Monday, April 7, crews will return to Jackson Boulevard to complete work in the eastbound lanes that include water main tie-ins, storm sewer, PCC pavement, curb and gutter, and sidewalk. In addition, work will resume at intersecting side streets, such as Lodge Street, Tepee Street, Empey, and Central Boulevard as well as the Frontage Road west of the Sheridan Lake Road intersection.

Roadway lighting adjacent to the eastbound lanes will be installed following the completion of the sidewalk in this area. New traffic signals will be installed at the 32nd/Argyle Street intersection and at the Sheridan Lake Road intersection.

On the completed sections of Jackson Boulevard, lane closures will be used to complete the sealing of the concrete pavement joints and installation of the permanent pavement markings.

The overall completion date for Jackson Boulevard is June 28th, 2014.

Weekly Project meetings are held every Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Rapid City Water Department, 1111 Mountain View Road. The Public is invited to attend. Meetings will resume April 3rd.
